About
The Graduate Nurse Education (GNE) office oversees the training of Doctorate level advanced practice nursing education for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the U.S. Army Program in Anesthesia Nursing. Madigan is a Doctor of Nursing Practice phase II site for the Nursing Anesthesia Program and a Doctor of Nursing Practice residency site for both Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners. GNE provides advanced practice clinical rotations for various advanced practice nursing programs both locally and around the nation. In addition to clinical rotations, our students may be involved in clinical research, evidence based scholarly projects and leadership development programs.
Graduate Nurse Education Doctorate Programs
The U.S. Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing Program
The U.S. Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN) develops Registered Nurse Anesthetists able to independently provide anesthesia care for all categories of patient and surgical specialty regardless of age or gender, in military and civilian settings. This program is conducted in two phases and is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve and Public Health Applicants.
Phase I: This is the didactic phase. Students spend one year at Fort Sam Houston, Texas focused on developing their advanced practice knowledge base and preparing for clinical rotations.
Phase II: Students participate in a 24 month clinical phase at Madigan. In addition students complete four off-site specialty rotations. This phase facilitates the integration and synthesis of knowledge and skills, engages students in meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration, and enriches the depth and breadth of enculturation into their advanced practice role.
Successful completion of this 36-month program results in a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree awarded from Northeastern University.
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Family Nurse Practitioner Program
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) Doctor of Nursing Practice Family Nurse Practitioner Program develops Nurse Practitioners prepared to provide comprehensive and continuous primary health care to all personnel, regardless of age or gender, in military and civilian settings.
The program is conducted in two phases and is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve and Public Health Applicants.
Phase I: Students spend two years on the USUHS campus developing their advanced practice knowledge base and logging 1000 hours of advanced practice clinical rotations.
Phase II: Students participate in a 13 month residency program at Madigan and complete their doctoral projects. The Phase II residency facilitates the integration and synthesis of knowledge and skills, engages students in meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration, and enriches the depth and breadth of enculturation into their advanced practice role.
Successful completion of this 36-month program results in a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree awarded from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Doctor of Nursing Practice Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program
The Uniformed Services University Doctor of Nursing Practice Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (USUHS PMHNP) develops Nurse Practitioners prepared to provide comprehensive and continuous in and out patient psychiatric, mental health and behavioral health care to all personnel, regardless of age or gender, in military and civilian settings.
The program is conducted in two phases and is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve and Public Health Applicants.
Phase I: Students spend two years on the USUHS campus developing their advanced practice knowledge base and logging 800 hours of advanced practice clinical rotations.
Phase II: Students participate in a 13 month residency program at Madigan and complete their doctoral projects. The Phase II residency facilitates the integration and synthesis of knowledge and skills, engages students in meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration, and enriches the depth and breadth of enculturation into their advanced practice role.
