Department of Pediatrics
About Us
Opened on Feb. 28, 1992, Madigan Army Medical Center is a 1.2 million-square-foot complex that was the newest and most modern military treatment facility in the Department of Defense and boasted state-of-the-art technology in clinical and administrative areas. To this day, Madigan remains a leader as a top-of-the-line medical center for Army Medicine.
Madigan is committed to ensuring we provide timely access to medical care for all of our pediatric patients.
- Newborn care. We are seeing newborns for their first clinic visit at 2-5 days of life and 2 weeks of life. If your infant was born off-post, please call the clinic to schedule the first appointment at 253-968-3066, Option 3 and coordinate to send a copy of baby's discharge note. All infants born at Madigan are scheduled follow up clinic visits at the time of inpatient discharge.
- Well Child Care. These visits are at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months and 18 months. If your child is also due immunizations, they will be done during the Well Visit. Please call to re-schedule the appointment if you or your child is ill. Well baby appointments can be scheduled calling The Pacific Integrated Referral Management and Appointing Center (PIRMAC) at 800-404-4506.
- 2- to 17-year-old well physicals and sports physicals. Children need one physical per year. If your child has been seen in the last year, we will complete your child’s paperwork without an appointment. You may send in paperwork via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal. Please make sure to complete the parent portion first. Sports Physicals may be scheduled from May-September. If your child is due for a physical and immunizations, they will be done at the same appointment. Please call The Pacific Integrated Referral Management and Appointing Center (PIRMAC) at 800-404-4506 to schedule these visits.
- Immunization Only visits. Available 5 days a week. Immunization-only nurse visits are available Monday-Friday for any aged child who needs vaccinations. Please bring your child’s immunization record to this visit. If your child is due well visit or physical, immunizations will be done at the same appointment. Please call The Pacific Integrated Referral Management and Appointing Center (PIRMAC) at 800-404-4506
- Sick visits. There are multiple ways for your child to receive care when they are ill. First, you may call the Military Health System Nurse Advice Line to speak with a nurse, 24 hours a day at 1-800-TRICARE Option #1. Second, you may call or message the clinic to determine if your child needs to be seen face to face, virtually or simply receive nursing guidance.
Please call the Pediatric Clinic at 253-968-3066, Option 3 to speak with the Pediatric Clinic directly.
You may also message your clinic team directly using the

HealthySteps Program
On behalf of the Secretary of Defense, the Defense Health Agency has implemented the HealthySteps program in pilot site pediatric clinics. As a participating site, we would like to share a new service available to parents or legal guardians of children enrolled at our clinic called HealthySteps.
The HealthySteps program provides early childhood development support to families where they are most likely to access it – the military pediatric primary care clinic. As an integral part of the pediatric team, HealthySteps specialists bring focus to the important interwoven skills needed for families to foster healthy child development and life-long well-being: social-emotional development; language and literacy skills; cognition skills; and perceptual, motor, and physical development. HealthySteps Specialists build strong relationships with families and providers so that communities can ensure all babies have a strong start during this critically important time in their life.
The HealthySteps program offers added support during your well-baby visit to answer questions you may have about taking care of your baby and to help you access additional resources that may be helpful to you through the Defense Health Agency or through DOD Military Community and Family Policy support programs such as Military OneSource.
If you are interested in additional information, please ask the pediatric staff offering services to your child (ages 0-3) about the HealthySteps program.
