About

MRI is a diagnosed imaging procedure, which uses a magnetic field to produce 2 or 3 dimensional images inside the body without using X-rays. The MRI scanner is a large cylindrical magnet with specialized antennas that are on or around the area of interest to obtain images. For your study, your body will be positioned lying down on a patient table, which will move into the center of the scanner. Documentation of implantable items (heart valves, stents and etc) will be required to ensure they are compatible in the MRI environment. Some MRI studies require preparation, which may include not eating six hours prior to the exam. Patients who suffer from claustrophobia may request a sedative from their primary care provider prior to the MRI.

  • Patients having an MRI are those referred from their primary care provider and civilian trauma patients.
  • Appointments can be made by visiting the Radiology Scheduling Desk in room 1-46-05, which is located on the first floor of the Hospital Tower and can be reached by taking the East Corridor of the hospital.
  • Prior to MRI scheduling, please request or CLICK HERE to download and fill out the "Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Prescreening Questionnaire form and FAX (This form cannot be emailed) to Madigan's Department of Radiology Scheduling at (253) 968-2689 during business hours OR bring the filled-out form to Radiology Scheduling located within radiology.
