About

Our Mission: To support and enable the Madigan Army Medical Center mission by providing command and control, administrative support, and training for assigned military personnel.

The Medical Readiness Battalion (formerly known as Troop Battalion) is one of two battalions under the Madigan Army Medical Center. The command component is comprised of the battalion commander, battalion command sergeant major, battalion executive officer and three company command teams who are responsible for approximately 1600 Soldiers (Staff and Students). The Medical Readiness Battalion is dedicated to mission accomplishment, warrior preparedness, development in the Army profession and the quality of life of our Soldiers and their Families.

The three company command teams comprise of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), Alpha Company and Bravo Company. HHC is comprised of the Madigan command group as well as the Military Human Resources Division, Operations, Resource Management, Information Management Division, Equal Opportunity, Protocol, Ministry, Judge Advocate Group and the Inspector General. The remainder of HHC is students for Phase II of their MOS and AOC training and the Graduate Medical Education Program.

Alpha Company is comprised of Department of Nursing, Department of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Department of Anesthesia and Operative Services, Department of Family Medicine, and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Bravo Company is comprised of staff working in Pathology, Department of Medicine, Physical Medicine, Pharmacy, Armed Services Blood Bank Center, Logistics, Preventive Medicine, Department of Surgery, Radiology, Behavioral Health, Department of Clinical Investigations, Nutrition Care and Patient Administration.

Lieutenant Colonel James Beheler


Commander of Medical Readiness Battalion

Lieutenant Colonel James (Jimmie) Beheler assumed command of Madigan’s Medical Readiness Battalion on June 14, 2023, in a ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. His previous assignment was as the deputy commander for administration for the MEDDAC at Fort Meade, Md.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Beheler is a native of Cheverly, Md., and was raised in Ijamsville, Md. He was commissioned into the Army Medical Service Corps, serving his first assignment in Louisiana as a medical platoon leader for 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division and then as the executive officer for the Headquarters and Headquarters Troop. He was then assigned to Fort Huachuca, Ariz., where he served as the MEDDAC company commander, chief of clinical support division and group practice manager. In 2016, he transitioned to Germany to serve as the officer-in-charge of Kaiserslautern Health Clinic, the deputy commander for administration for U.S. Army Health Clinics in Baumholder and Kaiserslautern and the commander for U.S. Army Health Clinic in Kaiserslautern. From 2019–21, he served as the hospital executive officer for Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Beheler’s military education consists of the Officer Basic course; Health Services Plans, Operations, Intelligence, Training and Security AMEDD Officer Advanced course; Health Care Administration course; and the Command and General Staff College, Intermediate Level Education. His civilian education includes a bachelor of science in nursing from Widener University in Chester, Pa. He then earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from Baylor University, in Texas, with an administrative residency at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He is currently enrolled in Uniformed Services University where he is pursuing a graduate certificate in global health and global health engagement.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Beheler’s awards include the Army Meritorious Service Medal (2nd oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (2nd oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1st oak leaf cluster), Valorous Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (with numeral 2) and German Proficiency Badge (Gold).

 

Command Sergeant Major Blake E. Wise

Command Sergeant Major of Medical Readiness Battalion

Command Sergeant Major Blake E. Wise assumed responsibilities as the Medical Readiness Battalion command sergeant major on Aug. 3, 2022.  His previous assignment was as the chief medical NCO, 25th Infantry Division and USARHAW, Hawaii.
 
Command Sergeant Major Wise is a native of Bowling Green, Ohio, and entered the Army in September. 2004, as a combat medic (68W).  He completed basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and advanced individual training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.  Command Sergeant Major Wise has performed duties in every position from infantry platoon medic to division surgeon sergeant major.
 
His stateside assignments include: line medic, evacuation NCO and section sergeant, HHC 2/505th  PIR, Fort Bragg, N.C.; accreditation NCO and EMS NCOIC, HHC Army Medical Department Center and School, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; evacuation platoon sergeant, C Co, 64th Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Carson, Colo.; first sergeant, A Co, 64th BSB, Fort Carson, Colo.; and first sergeant, C Co, 64th BSB, Fort Carson, Colo.  His overseas assignments include operations NCOIC and NCOIC of the Directorate of Academics, Research, and Training (DART), Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii.  He has two combat deployments to Iraq and one deployment to both Kuwait and Poland in support of peacekeeping operations. 
 
Command Sergeant Major Wise’s military and civilian education includes Basic Airborne Course, Warrior Leaders Course (commandant’s list), Advanced Leaders Course (commandant’s list), Senior Leaders Course (commandant’s list), Sergeants Major Academy, Class 71 (commandant’s list), Battalion Pre-Command Course, CSM Development Program, Support Cadre Training Course, Instructor Training Course, Common Faculty Development Instructor Course, Combatives Level I Course, the Company Commander and First Sergeant Pre-Command Course, Practice Managers Course and the Master Fitness Trainers Course.  Command Sergeant Major Wise is a certified personal trainer and a certified nutrition coach through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Command Sergeant Major Wise also holds a bachelor of science degree in applied health science, Bowling Green State University, and a master of science degree in exercise science, California University of Pennsylvania.
 
Command Sergeant Major Wise’s awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2nd award), Army Superior Unit Award (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 campaign stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 4), Parachutist Badge, Driver Mechanic Badge-Wheeled, Driver Mechanic Badge-Track, Combat Medical Badge, and the Chilean Parachutist Badge.  Command Sergeant Major Wise has also been inducted into the prestigious Order of the Military Medical Merit.
